The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which now numbers nearly
3 million members, men and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide. The Apple Valley Post continues this tradition of service with over a thousand members volunteering our time and money for veteran issues, youth activities, and community enrichment.
Post 1776
Veterans in Dakota County and the surrounding area have called American Legion Apple Valley Post 1776 home since December 1977; a place to gather with other veterans and friends, a place that honors service and provides opportunities to continue to serve our great country.
Like many Legion Posts around the country, our founders first met at various locations, including local taverns to plan a new Post, gather interested veterans together that served in World War I, World War
II, Korea and Vietnam and laid the groundwork for Apple Valley’s American Legion. Post 1776 was officially Chartered on December 11, 1977 and has been serving our veterans, the community and the
surrounding area since.
The Post location has changed, a new building erected and that too changed, but the pride and commitment to our Legion mission, vision and values has remained steadfast. Our history continues to be written as we invite veterans who served in the Cold War, the Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq, or here at home to join us. All were called to serve and all are invited to be a part of our future.
“Among American Legion members, there is nor rank or prejudice, only purpose. A veteran is a veteran. And the purpose of veterans in The American Legion is to strengthen the United States of America through programs, service and actions that have proven vital, timeless and life-changing for over a century.” *
The legacy of Apple Valley Post 1776; still under construction.
