To enhance the well-being of America's veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness. The American Legion's vision statement is "The American Legion: Veterans Strengthening America."
Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires.
S.A.L. membership is open to all male descendants, step sons and adopted sons of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership. Members of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion comprise the Legion Family, which has a combined membership of nearly 4.2 million.
With over 10,000 members in Minnesota, SAL has an ever growing role in the Legion family, providing volunteer and monetary support to patriotic and youth activities throughout the state.
With over 40,000 members, the American Legion Auxiliary is the strong, right- arm of the American Legion.
The Auxiliary was created at the Minneapolis Convention in 1919.
Open to Wives, Daughters, and granddaughters of Legionnaires, the Auxiliary is a major component of the Legion Family.
With Programs in education, children, youth, and Girls State, the Auxiliary is strongly involved in Minnesota communities. Year after year, the Auxiliary provides hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours in our Minnesota communities.
The Apple Valley Post 1776 Color Guard/Honor Guard supports the mission of the American Legion by “advocating patriotism and honor … and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans”. We march in parades, and participate in events saluting America at schools, elder care facilities and other community venues. We also conduct military-style funerals for our fallen heroes.
La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux is an independent, by invitation, honor organization of male and female U. S. veterans, more commonly known as the Forty & Eight.
The Forty & Eight is committed to charitable and patriotic aims. Our purpose is to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, to promote the well being of veterans and their widows and orphans, and to actively participate in selected charitable endeavors, which include programs that promote child welfare and nurse’s training.
